Halloween in London & Barcelona

It’s kind of funny how your opinion on things change when you have children. I was never against Halloween but never felt the need to celebrate it either. In fact, being French, my view on it was just total indifference but Mila and her friends were getting so excited that we joined the fun. My friend Mel organized a Pumpkin-carving party on Saturday afternoon. When she told me she had got hold of a big plastic cover to protect the table and the floor, me – the ignorant frog – thought ‘pourquoi?’ since Steve had carved a pumpkin the week before and it wasn’t a messy job…and then I saw the result and I was blown away. I mean look at these…aren’t they fantastic!! ?? Guillaume downloaded a few free pumpkin stencils, then got the girls to draw on the pumpkins and with a bit of help….. here are the fabulous pumpkins by 4-years old Clara, Matilda and Mila !!!Then at 4pm, we all headed to our friend Tanja’s who had organized a fabulous party …

My friend Charlotte Gainsbourg

My friend Charlotte Gainsbourg

Sometimes I scare myself… I was just checking my personal facebook page to see how my family was doing when I saw a post from Charlotte Gainsbourg. For a split second, I thought we were friends then suddenly I remembered I joined her Facebook page as a fan…..sigh… Frankly, I really wonder what’s wrong with me…

Things I like by India Knight

We’re really chuffed! The Times Columnist and Author India Knight kindly mentioned our beautiful London, Paris and New-York prints in her blog this morning. India has been incredibly good to us and wrote very nice things about us in the past about our little company and ‘brilliant customer service’.She is also a customer and have two of our gorgeous lamps by Flavia del Pra in her home, which by the way is a visual feast of colour and if you haven’t seen it yet, you can do so here. Here are some of India’s books available on Amazon:Neris and India’s Idiot-proof diet (ordered already!)Neris and India’s Proof-Diet CookbookThe Dirty Bits: for girlsThe Thrift book: Live well and Spend lessHappy, fun reading!

My ‘Expert tips’: Bonfire night in Easy Living

I was really excited this weekend because Easy Living magazine had contacted me last Summer to be part of a feature they were writing on bonfire night and the November issue was out!! So I rushed to my local newsagent and here I was…. on page 35, just before Designer Sophie Conran. It was funny when they contacted me because I remembered the first time I went to a Bonfire party in Bristol fourteen years ago. It was my first Winter in the UK and that night, I was wearing a nice dress thinking we were off to a party to watch fireworks and have wine (wishful thinking). Honestly, an hour later, I could have worn a Christian Dior dress or a black bin bag, it would have made no difference! My whole body was swathed layers of fleeces that people had lent to me so I could cope with the minus 2 temperature outside!Talk about cultural shock!! Nothing had prepared me to spend the whole night outside eating sausages and drinking beers and watching …

Corto…the new BODIE and FOU’s mascot!

Francois, our warehouse manager, who is incidentally our kids brother (well we are a family business or not!), came to work with Corto…Is he gorgeous?? Corto was name after Corto Maltese, one of my favourite comics when I was a student.

Gorgeous family house in the making…

On Saturday morning, we drove to the West country (Bristol) to go to a friend’s birthday party and while Steve and my brother Francois watched the rugby in the afternoon, I had a nice little time going to all my favourite boutiques in Clifton village including 18 – a gorgeous fashion shop, beautifully decorated with grey distressed floorboards, French antique furniture, mixing fashion labels from Paris, Belgium and Italy and fragrance from Miller Harris, accessories for the home from Daybirger and glassware from Henry Dean. Being slightly hungover on Sunday morning, I was very much looking forward to having breakfast at Bordeaux Quay, a place which I raved about two years ago when we were living in Bristol and where we – being creatures of habit – had brunch every weekend but Sunday was a real let-down… Francois & I ordered the egg benedict but the bacon was so salty that we couldn’t taste the Hollandaise sauce (which frankly is the best part about the egg benedict!) and the bagel (normally nicely toasted) was also …
