My favourite place to eat pizza in London is Story Deli because visually, I think it’s one of the most inspiring places to be. As a lover of white interiors, textures and vintage, Story Deli feels like a second home to me. Over the years, the Deli has moved around East London and is now located at the end of Bricklane on Bethnal Green Road. The new Story Deli is a lot more pared down than it used to be, like a more balanced, grown-up version, yet still so beautiful (you can glimpse the old one here). It has less tables than it used to have, the distressed white floorboards at the old location have been replaced by a concrete floor, the space has still heigh ceilings and as today was a nice day, I particularly enjoyed the natural light flooding from two large sky windows.
We (Steve, Mila and I) usually go there at weekends which is always packed so it was a real treat to have a late lunch today (Thursday) with my friend Catherine and share the space only with a couple of Dutch girls at the next table. The organic pizzas cost £17 each and are just scrumptious, made with a very thin base and lots of fresh, organic ingredients. I had the parma ham one which was superb (see menu)
It always reminds me of the style of my design hero Jacqueline Morabito but of course, the owner Ann Shore, a freelance Stylist, has very much her own style. Over the course of the years, Ann collaborated with Vogue Italia, British Vogue, Vanity Fair etc and the shop she used to have nearby the old Deli was like a cavern of Ali Baba to me. Ann was there today serving us. These days, there is still a space next door which is a creative window of her amazing style but nothing is available for sale except these great & practical cardboard stools that we have in our lounge.
