Natural bedroom styling in France

A few weeks ago, I updated the styling of one of the bedrooms in this holidays home which you can rent via Airbnb. Bearing in mind that the house is for sale and I can’t give it too much of a strong identity so everyone visiting it, can project their own style, I have decided to leave the walls white and add small styling touches to create a happy vibe. This was an inexpensive styling job (only about 15 euros for the stretched canvas), a few tear sheets, my BE HAPPY print, some family photos and quotes found on Pinterest.

Loss

It is with a very heavy heart that I have to inform you of what has been happening in our family lately… Last Saturday started like a beautiful weekend…Steve went off to Cardiff to watch the All Blacks beat the hell out of the French and Mila and I went to stay with some friends. Besides the fact that Mila left the car key in the boot of the car which locked itself with all our belongings for the weekend in it and I spent the afternoon trying to work out the best plan to get hold of the second set of keys we had at home, it was a nice afternoon. We decided to take the kids to the skatepark and enjoy ourselves. At 5pm, my mum called me and told me that my dad had taken his own life. In the past three years, my dad has been struggling with depression. This has been a tough journey for our family and one that I never mentioned on the blog. I mentioned my own depression here and …

5 things I want right now!

Steve is off to Cardiff this weekend to watch the rugby match France Vs New-Zealand with some kiwi friends and Mila and I are heading off near Cap-Breton to stay with friends, as soon as I have welcomed the guests staying in our house. I’ve packed my weekender with pretty much these things…

This is so funny!

This is so funny!

I’m off to Bikram yoga this weekend with a friend and read this hilarious post written by Daniel Sherman, a guy who had tried Bikram and was selling his yoga mat for $1. It is quite long but definitively worth reading! Enjoy! Yoga mat for sale. $1 Used once at lunch hour class in December 2009. Usage timeline as follows:  11:45a Register for hot yoga class. Infinite wisdom tells me to commit to 5 class package and purchase a yoga mat. I pay $89.74. Money well spent, I smugly confirm to myself.  11:55aOpen door to yoga room. A gush of hot dry air rushes through and past me. It smells of breath, sweat and hot. Take spot on floor in back of room next to cute blonde. We will date. 11:57aI feel the need to be as near to naked as possible. This is a problem because of the hot blonde to my left and our pending courtship. She will not be pleased to learn that I need to lose 30 pounds before I propose to her. 11:58aThe …

how to make your own linen spray. Here is a very simple & easy recipe. Check it out www.karinecandicekong.com

How to make your own linen spray

Since we added these soft stonewashed linens to collection in the shop, I have, little by little, replaced all our cotton beddings by stonewashed linen, which admittedly is an investment but it also goes with my objective to have less clutter in our home. So I have now less duvet covers that we used to, but the ones I have, are ones that I really love. So here is a little creative project (really quick and easy), for you to make your own linen spray so that your bed linen, be it stonewashed linen or cotton, smells wonderful.

{WISE WORDS} BALANCE

I’m so balanced these days you can call me Buddha… OK so yes, I’m entering my 4th week of not working out and not eating such a balanced diet and I’m ok with it. I’m OK with it because…

Monday’s must-have

Following your feedback on the reader survey, I’m starting a new feature…well actually re-visiting an one old as the majority of you enjoy these fashion posts and others want more of the Get the Look with prices. The Monday must-have one will be short and sweet, focusing on one thing, one style, one look…not necessarily fashion, sometimes it will be interiors but it will be short, inspiring and uplifting and that’s all we want on a Monday morning. Let me know if you like it…

Gluten-free, FODMAP banana cake recipe. Read on www.karinecandicekong.com

Gluten-free banana cake

I think this is the third recipe of banana cake I’ve posted on the blog. I had stopped baking them because I could no longer cope with the amount of sugar but I’ve found a new recipe that is gluten-free and sugar-free and when I say sugar-free, I mean refined sugars. Did you know that a traditional banana cake recipe contains at least 11 spoons of sugar!?   This banana cake recipe is gluten-free, FODMAPs friendly, refined sugar-free and if you don’t have a food intolerance, it is simply delicious and healthy. Dry ingredients you will need: 1/2 cup buckwheat flour 1/2 cup almond meal 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cardamom 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1 teaspoon ginger 1/2 teaspoon allspice (optional) 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract) 1/2 teaspoon sea salt Wet ingredients (this is important for the preparation): 2 large eggs 1/4 cup melted coconut oil 1/4 cup your choice of milk (I use rice milk or almond milk) 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar …
