Bedroom with a view

Bedroom with a view

I had a real coup de coeur for this bedroom with a view, filled with natural light. The separation wall was knocked down and replaced by these large windows. The result has increased the sense of space and make everything flow nicely. This is the home of Danish Artist Gitte Svendsen. On one side, there is the kitchen and artist’s studio and on the other side, the bedroom and a dining table by the window. I’m planning to do something similar in Elodie’s new flat in Paris, between Lily‘s bedroom and the lounge to open up space and bring more natural light into her flat. I think this is a beautiful example of what can be achieved, don’t you think? I also love the mix of throws, rugs and wooden vintage furniture that add warmth and textures to the room. I would be quite happy to hang out there for the day, wouldn’t you? You can see more pictures here

5 Things I want right now to rock the streets of Paris #jesuisparis

5 things I want right now!

Don’t you love it when your mum can teach your children something she taught you as a child? Mila started to learn how to sew with my mum and has been talking about it non stop and I know she is in good hands. Our great-grand mother Elodie was a modeliste and taught my grand-mother to sew and knit from an early age. She then passed on these skills to her four daughters and us, her grand-daughters, at least for sewing. I never managed to knit anything properly but Elodie is having another go… Last night, we watched “Couture, The New queens of Haute”, a very interesting documentary featuring

Knoll sample sale

Thank you all for your very kind comments and positive energy here, Facebook and Instagram. Someone wrote here “La beauté est une réponse à l’horreur” (beauty is an answer to the horrific) which I thought was a beautiful thing to say and reminded me of The Flowers of Evil by Baudelaire… Yes let’s keep being inspired by beautiful interiors, let’s keep lusting about beautiful things that make our day-to-day just a little bit better. We all know that’s not everything but it does feel good to daydream or just to have dreams. Talking about beautiful things, I’m the proud owner of this gorgeous vintage Bertoia chair (above) and if I could, I would love to have five more to fit around our dining table so I’m really disappointed to miss out again on the Knoll sample sale in London.

A small, beautiful Parisian flat

A small, beautiful Parisian flat

I love discovering small spaces, cleverly designed and this small flat (42 m2) is a perfect example of what can be achieved in a small space. I first read about this flat in 2009 and while I have the memory of a goldfish for most mundane things when it comes to interiors, my brain seems to file things in a funny way and remembers very old stuff. So when I started working on this new interior design project, somehow I kept thinking about the bathroom fitted by Agathe Perroy in her flat. When Agathe visited the building for the first time, it was split into two small flats. One on the ground floor and the other one on the top floor of a small nineteenth-century house in a very bad state but full of charm. Being an Interior Designer, Agathe worked out how to link these two spaces to create one inviting home. She first started to knock down a few partition walls and removed the false ceiling to gain more height. Luckily, this unrevealed perfectly preserved oak beams which she kept …

easy, peasy chocolate brownie by Lily & Mila. Read on www.karinecandicekog.com

The easiest chocolate brownie you will find

This is one of the easiest chocolate brownie recipes you will ever make! Mila and Lily made this chocolate brownie during half term all by themselves. My only contribution was to put it in the oven. I love when kids bake on holidays, don’t you!? It’s a good way to keep them busy, teach them something useful while having fun and on top of it, you get to have some cake to eat afterwards. The girls ‘ chocolate brownie is incredibly easy to make (only 15 minutes preparation!) and it tastes DE-LI-CIOUS! As I’m intolerant to gluten (I ballooned like a whale!), we used gluten-free flour to make this chocolate brownie so I could have a little slice but you can use normal flour if you wish. For this chocolate brownie, you will need: 200g cooking chocolate 3 eggs 2 cups of sugar, about 200g 1 cup of rice flour (gluten-free), about 100 g 150g butter Instructions: Pre-heat the oven to 180ºC / 350ºF  In a bowl, mix the eggs with the sugar In a saucepan, melt slowly the …

Just be kind

Just be kind

On Saturday, one of my scheduled house tour went live (I’ve deleted it since then). Someone who never left a comment before left a harsh comment on Instagram, saying that in the wake of the terrible events that happened in Paris, all I could think of, was interiors. Lady, nothing could be further from the truth…

#paris

I’m deeply saddened and horrified by what happened last night in Paris and all my thoughts go to the families who lost friends, children, brothers and sisters, parents in these horrible attacks. A friend of mine wanted to attend the concert at The Bataclan but luckily, he couldn’t get a ticket. I’m also deeply saddened that we have to raise our children in a world where killing seems to be the only answer, surely there is another way!!? As John Lennon said: “it matters not who you love, where you love, why you love, when you love or how you love, it matters only that you love” Be safe and be strong. Love to you all xoxo PS: In observance of the three days of national mourning announced by our French President, the blog will not be updated and all upcoming scheduled posts have been cancelled.

5 things I want right now!

How has your week been so far? Mine has been good…and interesting. I took good care of myself, went to the hairdresser and frankly after three weeks of living under a rock, I feel and look human again but what I thought was interesting was how things were changing for me. I did two things that I would have never done before dad’s death.
