So excited by the Bank Holiday weekend! We’re off to Chez Juliette tonight at the beach before heading to Paris on Saturday morning for the weekend. How about you?? Any nice plans for the long weekend?
The other day, I was flicking through a decoration magazine with a friend from Australia and she asked me if I ever had a bedroom with a headboard when I was growing up in France. I thought about it for a while and told her it was actually the opposite…I always had a headboard in my parents’ home… Bless my mum for her irreproachable sense of style, but at some point, I even had a four poster bed and pink Toile de Jouy wallpaper in my bedroom. It looked so French, it was a dream comes true for my American penpal. I moved towards modern, Scandinavian design when I went to University, discovered the Swedish giant and then, the Scandinavian design legacy with designs from Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner, Verner Panton to name a few. Since then, I think my style has naturally evolved between the stylish French style I grew up with, the modern Scandinavian style I embraced and the relaxed New-Zealander style I married into. True to be told, while I consider myself a modernist, I still love headboards and …
It’s funny how each of my travel photos on Instagram seem to be driven by a specific colour depending on where I go. Croatia last year was a mixed of dark blue and natural hues, Portugal in February was a celebration of pale blue and white, San-Francisco last week was an hymn to soft pink and soothing pastels and I can’t tell you how much I loved it!
Last Monday, Siham from Frenchbydesign and I spent the day walking around the streets of San Francisco. I saw many pretty ceramic shops and coffee places in Valencia and I loved discovering Paxton Gate, which is quite an interesting, curious shop considering they specialise in entomology and taxidermy and plants. So yes you get welcomed by skulls and dead animals but then as you walk in, you discover this gorgeous urban jungle garden at the back of the shop filled with cacti, succulents and other beautiful plants. I thought it was quite funny the contrast between all things dead and these beautiful, green plants celebrating life…
As much I love when a guy offers to carry my heavy suitcase up the stairs, you have to admit that most of the time, we have to take care of things ourselves. So when I travel alone by plane, I make a point of packing light to make my life easier.
I have a massive crush on this gallery wall and generally speaking, I think when you mix family photos and posters, a gallery wall can look really striking and incredibly gorgeous in your home. However, if you feel intimated to put one together on your wall, let alone nailing or drilling a few nails correctly into a wall, here are some valuable tips to do it right.
A couple of weeks ago, my sister Elodie and a bunch of girlfriends came down to the Bay of Arcachon for a girls weekend. I made this delicious chocolate zucchini cake twice and tried a new anti-inflammatory green juice. We ate good healthy food, laughed a lot and talked about food, sugar intake, clean eating, skincare, make-up, ageing gravefully and single motherhood (3 out of 5 in our group). We all came out of the weekend feeling energised and positive with so much to take from each other so I thought I would share with you all the skincare tips we exchanged.
