A natural tones residence in Mykonos

The muted tones of this residence have inspired me greatly recently. I have been eager to change the decoration to fit our new life since we relocated to France. The soft, natural palette of this residence is what I’m aiming for. Our current decoration is not outdated, quite the opposite actually. I was impressed by how some areas in our home still look modern and timeless after 12 years like our master bedroom with its dark grey feature wall or the Ikea kitchen that hasn’t gone yellow despite being exposed to natural light. However, now that we have received our belongings from London, I feel it’s time to give our home a little makeover and a more beachy look. One of the things on my to-do lists when we moved to the beach was to take up surfing. At first, it was hugely challenging on various accounts. A part of me was very proud to start surfing at 40+ because I’m a firm believer that anyone of us can start anything we want, anytime, without caring about the age thing. However, the reality was a bit harder to process. First, I was the only woman over 40+ at my club to surf (and when I say 40+, I’m actually closer to 50) so often I ended up surfing with teens age 12-17… It was fine, they were all really sweet and they didn’t really care about me but I had a few lonely moments when I was wondering what on earth I was doing there or what was I trying to prove to myself… Yet I kept going. In what seems the longest Winter ever, I have decided to ignore the weather and focus on creating a Summery vibes in our home in France. As it happened, we received all our belongings from our home in London the day before I flew to London to work with Command Brand again. Facing the content of two houses fitting in one on my return, raised my stress level a bit but I’m slowly making my way through boxes and I’m planning to re-decorate the whole house one room at a time to accommodate the living requirements of our family. Spending two weeks in the house on holidays doesn’t require the same level of storage than living there the whole year. I’m also working from home now and so does Steve on Fridays so they are quite a few things we need to improve to make space work for us. The wishbone chair in its natural finish, which you can see in this beautiful Scandinavian home, is by far, my favourite wooden chair. And if you love it too love or simply love Scandinavian design, you are in for a real treat and something very special! To celebrate Hans J. Wegner’s 104th birthday on April 2, Carl Hansen & Søn is releasing a special edition of the iconic CH24 Wishbone Chair in Ancient Oak. Wegner first designed the Wishbone Chair, known for its distinctive wishbone-shaped backrest, in 1949, and the chair has been in continuous production since 1950. It is the result of an intense and uncompromising partnership between Wegner and the skilled craftsmen who contributed to the design’s demanding development work. Almost 70 years after coming into existence, the Wishbone Chair continues to be manually assembled by skilled craftsmen who handle the chair’s 14 parts and hand-weave the seat from 120 meters of paper cord before the finished chair can leave the furniture factory in Gelsted, on the Danish island of Funen. Ambiente Textures & Shapes Trend Report 2018

I recently attended the Ambiente Fair in Frankfurt and while it was hard work (I walked an average of 12K each day) and there were a lot of brands exhibiting, I have really enjoyed the Fair and discovered many new Designers and companies that made my heart skip a beat, so in the end, all these steps and aching muscles were worth it. My top three favourite stands were Brands and Designers I had never heard of before and who also represent the trends for textures and shapes I spotted in Ambiente. 1/ Ceramic Designers: Kaas + Heger, a husband and wife team who have been Ceramist for 30 years in their own right and joined forces in 2016 to create their first tableware ceramic collection. Each piece is beautifully handmade using one local clay and natural pigments to achieve these beautiful, complementary earthy hues. A ceramic collection that will add warmth and textures to the most minimalist interiors. 2/ Concrete being one of my favourite materials to use in interior design, I was really impressed …
