How to make your own advent calendar

How to make your own advent calendar

I know that all children (including Mila) are eagerly waiting to open their advent calendar and get a little treat before going to school. This year, I’ve made our own advent calendar with plain white matchboxes and hung them with Command Brand transparent plastic hooks. Both can easily be found on Amazon. These Command™ Clear Decorating Clips hooks are fantastic to hang Christmas decorations without damaging your walls. I also use them on styling projects, to hang garlands in Mila’ bedroom or for her birthday party. The other thing I use a lot all year long is their picture hanging strips. I think is worth mentioning this article again because I regularly see people on Instagram asking how they can hang picture frames without drilling into their walls. Each time I’m like “Command Brand people, Command Brand!” (please read it if you haven’t done so, you will thank me). Once you have everything listed below, it should not take you more than 20 minutes to make your own advent calendar. To make this advent calendar, you will …

Organic Basics - Basically better made

Organic Basics – Basically better made

Have you heard of Organic Basics before? It’s a Danish brand created in 2015 which designs and produces sustainable, better made basics. Like me, they think fashion produces too much waste and that there is a better way of doing things, of consuming things and enjoying fashion. In the case of Organic Basics, that means better fabrics and basics like t-shirts, socks and underwear that last longer. It’s a no brainer I think. You can also trust the Danes to come up with some fantastic branding and packaging to deliver the message in style. Isn’t this soft pink packaging gorgeous!? I love the colour so much that I think I’m gonna recycle it and re-use it to store things. With its big white logo on brown padded envelope, the Arket mail order packaging is pretty cool too. I’ve ordered the organic complete pack which includes 2 briefs, 1 pretty triangle bra and 1 basic soft t-shirt. They currently have some Christmas packs for her here and for men here. I had a full on day dealing with …

The winter coat I swear by

The Winter coat I swear by

I’m not one to have dozens of winter coats in my wardrobe. To tell you the truth, I get stressed out when I can’t see what is in my wardrobe and it overflows with clothing. If you are like me, read these 15 helpful tips to declutter your home. My Autumn Winter coat capsule includes at the most 5 pieces which already sounds too much… Two Winter coats (the new one & one purchased 2/3 seasons ago), a 10 years-old timeless trench coat from Comptoir des Cotonniers (really loving the style of this Arket trench), a raincoat and now a parka so I can watch Mila surfing in the winter time. SHOP MY FAVOURITE TRENCH COATS THIS SEASON For the past two years, I wore an oversized coat from Monki that I really loved. This season, I fell in love with this belted coat from H&M. Based on the cost per wear (£119.99), it has proven to be a good investment already! Belted coats really enhance your waist and give you that extra confidence in your step. I …

Basal table by Normal Studio

The Basalt table by Normal studio

Black dining tables and black coffee tables add, without a doubt, modern luxury to a home. The Basalt table designed by Normal Studio adds warmth and textures too. Founded in 2006 by Jean-François Dingjian and Eloi Chafaï, Normal Studio is a French industrial Design agency located in Paris (Montreuil). Both have designed products for Ligne Roset, Tolix, SEB, Tefal and more recently the stylish Mimic mirror for Muuto and many more. SHOP MY FAVOURITES FROM THE MUUTO COLLECTION Cut from a single oak trunk to get an even aspect, each piece is handcrafted and burned with a blowtorch (see video below) to get this deep colour becoming close to a mineral aspect. Once finished, the designs retain their natural tree rings and represent the history, beauty, and destruction of nature….basically life.   You can watch below how the Basalt table is made. It’s fascinating, don’t you think!? Burn wood was also used on the outside of French Fashion Designer Aurélie Lecuyer’s home, a beautiful family home designed by Atelier Ordinaire. If you’re looking for a similar finish for your …

How to care for dry hair

How to care for dry hair

How to care for dry hair is one question that comes back regularly. Whatever the nature of your hair, every woman (me included!) dreams of having beautiful, shiny, healthy hair. Unfortunately, dry hair is inevitable when your hair is constantly battered by heat styling tools, chemical treatments, sun, salt and pollution. Last week, I became blonde (literally!). While I’m now used to this new colour and I’m starting to like it, I also noticed that my hair got really dry following the dye. It was time to take matters into my own hands and put as much care into my hair the way I do it with my face and skin. I first tried a DIY hair mask: 2ggs, 1 tbsp of honey, 2 tbsp of yogurt. Egg yolk is rich in fats and proteins and is also naturally moisturizing while the white contains the bacteria-eating enzymes that remove unwanted oils. So it supposed to moisturize dry and brittle hair. Frankly, it wasn’t a success. I mixed a whole pot but it was super cold so …

Margote Ceramiste jewellery collection

Margote Ceramiste is a French independent jewellery brand launched by Caroline Girardon in 2008. I first came across Caroline’s collection a few years ago in a French magazine when she launched this pretty bracelet adorned with a white porcelain star and this one which I adore. Back in London, I forgot about them until I spotted them again in a little boutique in Le Moulleau near our surf club in France last June. Funnily enough, Caroline recently contacted me to introduce me to her new collection Palermo Hiver 2018. While I loved the free-spirit vibe of the previous collection, the new collection is more refined, chic and feminine. I’m wearing the necklace “Grande Dame” which comes with an 18K plated gold chain and a beautiful quartz stone. In addition to looking stylish, quartz is known to get rid of energetic, emotional blocks and to stimulate your memory, imagination, and intuition. It also represents wisdom and serenity. All things that strike a chord with me…In the UK, some of Margote Ceramiste’s jewellery is available from a shop called Indian Summer on Fulham road. …
