I did some housecleaning on Sunday and changed our linen bedlinen for a dark grey. Looking at our bedroom (first pic/and here), I have to admit that while I love white interiors, I really love the dark grey wall of our bedroom in France.
Dark grey feels stylish and modern yet very intimate and welcoming. Once we have sold this house, I’m planning to move one of the Ikea Malm bedframes back to the bigger house and paint it in dark grey like the back wall of our bedroom. Has anyone done this before on Ikea’s Malm?
Until then, here are three beautiful dark bedrooms which I find very inspiring.
The first one was photographed by Wendy for Nu Interieur, a Dutch company I love a lot and which designed the leather handles I used in our bedroom in London.
I love the Flos 265 Wall Lamp in the second bedroom (sorry couldn’t find the author & credit accordingly).
I also think the bedframe in the third picture which looks like a large painted canvas, look fabulous and should be fairly easy to do with a large piece of MDF. Which one do you like the most?// 1. Photography: Wendy van Woudenberg| 2. | 3. Styling: Hans Blomquist for Fastighetsbyran
SHOP THE STORY:
Have just painted two, Malm chests of drawers, in Farrow and Ball eggshell. They are transformed, a HUGE success. Light sanding, primer/undercoat and two top coats. Go for it!
Fab thanks for this Joyce! I wasnt too sure if sanding would work since it’s not exactly proper wood, I will give it a go!
I love the last bedroom, its super stylish and the rustic additions really add warmth and soften the overall scheme. The white curtains and bed linen just adds a touch of elegance and femininity.
the last one is the best. But i think it will be better if you give a little bit of light color, it will make the grey more stunning.
Try Annie Sloan Graphite or one of the Authentico dark greys. No need to sand or prime. Goes on beautifully. Then either use black or clear wax to finish or Annie Sloan matte glaze which is more hard wearing.
Thanks linda. I never heard of this brand in the UK so I will check it out
Dark is awesome & cool
