8 favourite Summer spots in the Bay of Arcachon. Read on www.karinecandicekong.comA few people coming to stay in our holidays homes (this one for 6 people and this one for 8 people) have been asking me about places to eat and what to do with young children so here are my favourite spots to eat in the Bay of Arcachon and they are all child-friendly.

Chez Juliette | Plage de Laouga, Cazaux
This is pretty much our local…Right on the beach, the setting and view are priceless.
Fifteen years ago, I came to Cazaux for the first time after a trip in Australia and a few blissful days spent in Cairns. I didn’t know Cazaux then. I had spent my childhood holidays 17 kms away in Arcachon with my beloved grandmother and I wasn’t too keen on my mum retiring in the middle of nowhere, far from the place I had so many happy childhood memories but when I biked to the beach to view the Lake of Cazaux, I was amazed how much it reminded me of Cairns. The pine trees, the untouched seaside, the curtains flying off through the open windows, everything was so beautiful and it was love at first sight.8 favourite Summer spots in the Bay of Arcachon. Once thing I really loved about the area is how little restaurants are built like oysters huts like this one. Le Grand Zampano is 8min from Laouga beach and has too, a lovely outdoor terrace right on the beach. A great place if you love Italian cuisine and they do pasta takeaways. Le 28 in the centre of Cazaux, which is 2 min walk from our house is a good place too. They do salads, steacks and pizzas (takeaways available) and Eat as much as you want mussels & French fries on Fridays (bookings required).

My kind of place in terms of decoration, this place is great for brunch and overall interiors inspiration. The details I love…the verrière at the end of the room showing the kitchen and the large pine tree inside. If you go there, walk down to Pia-Pia, a fashion shop with a great selection of designers including Polder, Vanessa Bruno, Laurence Doligé, etc. If you walk down the beach, you’ll find several restaurants facing the beach (the one at the far end makes great pizzas).8 favourite Summer spots in the Bay of Arcachon. Chez Hortense, Cap-Ferret  Off season, we love going to the Cap-Ferret for a day. During the high-season, its quite an expedition due to traffic jams and you’re best taking the boat early in the morning from Arcachon or Le Moulleau, spend the day at le Cap and head back to Arcachon in the evening. Chez Hortense is an institution and has been around since 1938. La Maison du Bassin is also very nice.

Hôtel Ville d’Hiver A great address to eat and stay which I’ve mentioned here about boutique hotels in Arcachon & Cap-Ferret. The food is very nice and the service was great.8 favourite Summer spots in the Bay of Arcachon. Read on www.karinecandicekong.com

Cafe Plage Pereire Another of my favourite…I love the decoration and it’s a good place to hang out after a day at the beach.8 favourite Summer spots in the Bay of Arcachon. Read on www.karinecandicekong.comFor more inspiring addresses, follow me on Instagram and check out hashtag #ourhomeinfrance.

  2. Thank you for this wonderful post. Have been visiting the area for many years – since my teens – and now have a holiday home in Biscarrosse. I just love being there, and like you, now trying to create wonderful memories for my children. We tend to avoid the Arcachon area in high summer, just because of the heavy traffic, but we will certainly check out some of these lovely places in May half term and Cap-Ferret is on the list for this October half term! x
