If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen (or not… thanks to Instagram’s new algorithm…) that a Photographer came to shoot our home in London last week.

Unfortunately, I can’t show you the final look I put together or any beautiful images he shot as they have to be kept under wrap until the feature is out but I wanted to show you these beautiful and inexpensive natural wooden stools and a few other natural touches I added around our lounge.

I brought similar versions but much smaller stools for our home in France after my first trip to Marrakech.  In fact, I was almost in tears when I came across these stools and these gorgeous baskets in the Souk the first time I visited Marrakech.

I think if I had still the e-shop, I would have come back to the UK with a container full of beautiful things but as it happens,  I sold it in 2016 to focus on more creative projects like this blog and my portrait photography.

The ones I brought back from Marrakech were much smaller (29 x 29 x 30 cm), more like kids’ stools so one is in Mila’s bedroom and I realised I don’t have any picture but you can still see Mila’s bedroom’s makeover here.
Two are in the corridor that runs through the house and the fourth is in the guest bedroom.

Comes Summer and they all end up on the deck at the front of the house…

The stools from Moroccan Bazaar are much higher than the ones I bought in Marrakech so I used two in our bedroom as bedside tables, one in the kitchen to add contrast next to the vintage metal unit on which I displayed my new handcrafted ceramics.

The last one is in the lounge (see picture above) and hosts a few nice decorating and photography books which can be put somewhere else should we need temporary additional seating.

The same scenario as in France…comes Summer and we will all use them as seating in the back garden.

When it comes to decorating, I always look to add some kind of effortless, holiday vibes in our home and I find these wooden stools are a great way to add a relaxed, natural touch for very little money.
Plus they go very nicely with stonewashed linen or any other natural material I tend to use throughout the house.

I also moved a couple of sculptures I made (the only ones ever!) on the mantelpiece. I made these about twenty years when I first arrived in London.
I don’t know if the class still exists but it was a lovely evening class in Holborn. From memory, they were also offering drawing classes so if I ever remember the name, I will update it here.

The large print on the left-hand side was a gift to me by Artist Imke Klee and I bought the white ceramic jug during her trip in Amsterdam.

When I travel, I tend to bring back things that will fit in my home rather than a typical local thing.
