The Spanish chair by Børge Mogensen

The Spanish chair by Børge Mogensen

The Spanish chair by Børge Mogensen is one of my favourite mid-century Danish design. A black version of Mogensen’s Spanish chair was lent to us when we photographed our home in London (see the whole feature in Grazia UK here). I wish I could have kept it… It’s a beautiful, sturdy chair, extremely comfortable with a high-quality thick leather cover and wooden frame. Have you ever tried it? This month, Fredericia releases a Special Edition of the Spanish chair by Børge Mogensen in Deep Red saddle leather. It’s a beauty! Originally designed in 1958, The Spanish Chair has been manufactured by Fredericia ever since. It’s an iconic piece you will often find in corporate settings, hotels, galleries, and private residences around the globe, reflecting Mogensen’s unique angle on modernity.  What do you think of this new colour? Do you like it or do you prefer one of the other colours? What is your favourite mid- century classic chair? SHOP THE FREDERICIA CHAIR

Knoll sample sale

Thank you all for your very kind comments and positive energy here, Facebook and Instagram. Someone wrote here “La beauté est une réponse à l’horreur” (beauty is an answer to the horrific) which I thought was a beautiful thing to say and reminded me of The Flowers of Evil by Baudelaire… Yes let’s keep being inspired by beautiful interiors, let’s keep lusting about beautiful things that make our day-to-day just a little bit better. We all know that’s not everything but it does feel good to daydream or just to have dreams. Talking about beautiful things, I’m the proud owner of this gorgeous vintage Bertoia chair (above) and if I could, I would love to have five more to fit around our dining table so I’m really disappointed to miss out again on the Knoll sample sale in London.

Vipp’s Award- Winning Kitchen 2014 – Elle Decoration International Design Award

Since I started working on the renovation plans of our London home, I’ve always figured out that our kitchen would be white like the rest of our home until I was invited by VIPP last Christmas to participate to a styling blogger competition in their flagship store in Copenhagen and saw their black kitchen designed in-house by Morten Bo Jensen, Head of Design at Vipp. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so beautiful and striking… Seeing it on display in their beautiful flagship store (which has polished concrete floors – another thing I would love in our new kitchen), has completely opened up my mind and I see now a black kitchen in our family home is now well within the realms of possibility. Since then, my Kitchen board on Pinterest, has been filling up with gorgeous and inspiring black kitchens. This week, the VIPP kitchen has won the Elle Decoration International Design Award for best kitchen 2014 which is amazing and well-deserved so massive congratulations to the whole team, to this amazing brand which …

I love this…

This is my new toy…the plattan headphones by Scandinavian Headphones Heroes: Urbanears. I took the black plattan headphones and white one to France a few weeks ago for the photoshoot of our new catalogue and went running with them 3 times…What can I say…I love them! The little headphones I had with my i-Phone kept falling off my ears and were driving me crazy but these…they just stay nicely on my head during 8K and being able to run with loud music and no disruption has made my runs a lot more enjoyable! Now may I shyly say that the photos below were taken by my brother and styled by me….

Loving Danish Designs: Part 3: Birgit Oestergaard

I discovered Birgit Østergaard 2 years ago at Maison & Objet in Paris where I go regularly to outsource innovative, unique designs for BODIE and FOU and Wheredidyoubuythat.comI fell in love with her lighting designs made of sailcloth on the spot so I was really pleased that she let BODIE and FOU introduce all her lighting designs online!Birgit is an artist and the aesthetic expression is crucial to her work. The sculptural idea for the sailcloth series came to life at an exhibition at the art museum in Aarhus in 1999.What set her designs apart is that her amazing lights can evolve in your home as this unique piece of art in constant development and as the owner of one of her pieces, you actually take part in the design process and form your own luminous sculpture to create a contemporary piece of art. There aren’t necessarily the most affordable lights but you get more than just a light, you get a piece of Birgit’s Art and I find her designs inspired by Nordic’s natural …
