How to make your own advent calendar

How to make your own advent calendar

I know that all children (including Mila) are eagerly waiting to open their advent calendar and get a little treat before going to school. This year, I’ve made our own advent calendar with plain white matchboxes and hung them with Command Brand transparent plastic hooks. Both can easily be found on Amazon. These Command™ Clear Decorating Clips hooks are fantastic to hang Christmas decorations without damaging your walls. I also use them on styling projects, to hang garlands in Mila’ bedroom or for her birthday party. The other thing I use a lot all year long is their picture hanging strips. I think is worth mentioning this article again because I regularly see people on Instagram asking how they can hang picture frames without drilling into their walls. Each time I’m like “Command Brand people, Command Brand!” (please read it if you haven’t done so, you will thank me). Once you have everything listed below, it should not take you more than 20 minutes to make your own advent calendar. To make this advent calendar, you will …

Basal table by Normal Studio

The Basalt table by Normal studio

Black dining tables and black coffee tables add, without a doubt, modern luxury to a home. The Basalt table designed by Normal Studio adds warmth and textures too. Founded in 2006 by Jean-François Dingjian and Eloi Chafaï, Normal Studio is a French industrial Design agency located in Paris (Montreuil). Both have designed products for Ligne Roset, Tolix, SEB, Tefal and more recently the stylish Mimic mirror for Muuto and many more. SHOP MY FAVOURITES FROM THE MUUTO COLLECTION Cut from a single oak trunk to get an even aspect, each piece is handcrafted and burned with a blowtorch (see video below) to get this deep colour becoming close to a mineral aspect. Once finished, the designs retain their natural tree rings and represent the history, beauty, and destruction of nature….basically life.   You can watch below how the Basalt table is made. It’s fascinating, don’t you think!? Burn wood was also used on the outside of French Fashion Designer Aurélie Lecuyer’s home, a beautiful family home designed by Atelier Ordinaire. If you’re looking for a similar finish for your …

How to create a gallery wall without damaging your walls

How to create a gallery wall without damaging your walls

As some of you guys know, I’m a Brand Ambassador for Command and a big fan of their products that I use regularly around our home to hang picture frames (see Mila’s desk makeover) or lighter items like this beautiful Lappalainen brass mobile which I hung from the ceiling in our lounge. Discovering products that would allow me to hang all my photos without having to drill into our new painted walls was a major lightbulb moment when we renovated our home in London and I’ve never looked back since then! So today, let me show you how you can create a beautiful gallery wall in your home with this series I photographed on the beach near our home in France.Command has a range of different products to hang picture frames but my favourite are by far, their picture hanging strips, which are super easy to use and can hold up to 7.2 kg. They are super quick to use, allowing you to display your frames on your walls in less than 10 min. without pulling the drill out of …

The beautiful home studio of Photographer Ditte Isager

Ditte Isager’s wooden home studio

I mostly work from home so I’m always interested in discovering how people organize their home studio and creative spaces. I love it, even more, when a home office is filled with natural light and feels inspiring. I think this one ticks those boxes, don’t you think!? This is the home studio of Danish Photographer Ditte Isager who photographed Gwyneth Paltrow’s books “It’s All Good” (which I love), and her second book “It’s All Easy”. She also photographed numerous campaigns for H&M, Fritz Hansen, Toast, and many more. After seven years in New-York, Isager moved back to Copenhagen with her husband and son Wilder (what a cool name!). As a fan of plywood and interiors featuring natural wood, I was naturally drawn to Ditte’s home studio which is covered from floor-to-ceiling in wooden planks of Dinesen’s Douglas Pine. The studio is right next to their home and can be accessed via an old re-purposed staircase. Yet it feels like it is in the middle of nowhere. Calm and remote. To maximize the space of this home studio, they built a mezzanine and put a mattress for …

How to create a mood board for your home in 3 steps

How to create a mood board for your home in 3 steps

Follow my blog with Bloglovin Creating a mood board is one of the most exciting steps when re-designing or refurbishing a room. If you’ve gone through major renovations before, you know that while it is a creative project to start with, it can also be stressful as you rely on other people/tradesmen for the project to come together and one thing you can’t control is what others will do. We always hope to work with tradesmen who are professional, conscientious and who will deliver on time but sadly, it is not always the case. The trickiest thing is finding reliable and available tradesmen that can do the job on time and within budget AND nurture the relationships while they work for you (in case you need them in the future)…but let’s focus on the fun part of a project ;-) Why should you aim to create a mood board? A mood board is a great way to show your tradesmen what your vision is for the room rather than emailing them thousands of pictures from Pinterest. It will give you a better sense of …

A warm, minimaliste lounge in neutral hues

A warm lounge in neutral hues

Follow my blog with Bloglovin While doing some research for Mila’s bedroom upcoming makeover to add storage and give her walls a fresh coat of paint (see the most recent makeovers here and here), I came across this soothing lounge in natural hues in the home of Interior Designer, Susanne Swegen. Since we sold our home in London and relocated to the beach in France, I have been moving towards interiors with a more natural feel, textures, and hues of whites and soft greys rather than the all-white Scandi look we had in London. A trend that I can see happening on my two Instagram accounts too: @bodieandfou and @peoplefromthesea (did you notice the change!? :-) As we now surf a lot more and go to the beach at least twice a week offseason, it was inevitable I guess, that the beauty and natural vibes of the surrounding white sandy beaches would rub on me. At first, it was the soothing blend of neutral colours that caught my eyes. Those light grey walls work beautifully with …

Our bedroom update with natural accents

Our bedroom update with natural accents

Follow my blog with Bloglovin As you may have seen from the “Renovations highlights” on my Instagram profile, I’m currently working on the re-decoration of our home in France. The renovations will include four bedrooms & hallway makeovers, the complete refurbishments of the bathroom and kitchen and the creation of an outdoor shower so let’s start with a look at our master bedroom… Our bedroom: from a place to sleep to a place to really relax and wind down After ten years of having a beautiful feature wall in dark grey, I’m now planning on having a softer colour scheme to create a more relaxing, soothing atmosphere in sync with the beautiful beaches available around the Bay of Arcachon. To tell you the truth, the bedroom has never been a space of heaven for me in the past like it is for some people. It was mostly a place to sleep and I much preferred hanging out in the open-plan lounge or kitchen. Resting or remaining still was something I had always real trouble with until I sold …

Lappalainen brass handmade mobile from Tea and Kate

The Lappalainen brass handmade mobile from Tea and Kate

In what seems the longest Winter ever, I have decided to ignore the weather and focus on creating a Summery vibes in our home in France. As it happened, we received all our belongings from our home in London the day before I flew to London to work with Command Brand again. Facing the content of two houses fitting in one on my return, raised my stress level a bit but I’m slowly making my way through boxes and I’m planning to re-decorate the whole house one room at a time to accommodate the living requirements of our family. Spending two weeks in the house on holidays doesn’t require the same level of storage than living there the whole year. I’m also working from home now and so does Steve on Fridays so they are quite a few things we need to improve to make space work for us. The great thing is that I have received some of my favourite objects and furniture including my beloved Ghost sofa and this beautiful Lappalainen brass handmade mobile from awesome online …
