4 Benefits to Adding More Natural Light to your Home

This winter is SOOOO long here in the UK. I’m day-dreaming of the Summer sun on my skin, looking tanned, healthy, happy…anyone else feeling the same? I read this article on the BBC the other day that highlighted how being exposed to sunlight daily is good for our health, both mentally and physically. I often think that adding natural light to your home is a key design concept that many people overlook. Light can be the difference between making a room look airy and elegant over one that looks unwelcoming and even dingy.  In our kitchen, half of the ceiling has been replaced by roof lights and I can’t tell you how much of a positive difference it makes to this room where we spend a lot of time as a family. While I wouldn’t even consider having a bedroom or living room that didn’t let in as much sunlight as possible, I find that natural light adds a dimension to the design of your home that cannot be created with artificial lighting alone. So, as I’m on a “healthier home/healthier mind/healthier body …

Italian kitchen envy

I spotted this beautiful kitchen in MILK magazine and I really love it. I can’t work out if the massive black block hides some cupboards (can’t see the hob either) but it looks beautiful and striking and if I had the right space in mine, I would have loved the beautiful wall light by Jean Prouve, which you can see on the wall.If you are aiming for a similar look on a budget, the pipe lamp and this New-York black & copper light are great alternatives.

In the shop this week: the MILK lamp

I had a massive crush on the work of the work of Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen from NORM Architects since I posted about their work last year. I love/admire the interiors they create and how they use raw, natural materials such as oak, stones, concrete to create homes that exude calm, beauty, simplicityDo you remember how gorgeous the Fredensborg home and this Copenhagen penthouse were? Anyway, one crush leading to another….the gorgeous MILK lamp they designed for &Tradition is now in the the shop.Like the interiors NORM. create, the MILK lamp for &Tradition exudes style and beauty and provides a cosy, soothing atmosphere as you can see from the last 2 pictures taken in Hotel Skt Petri in Copenhagen (I want to stay there next time I go to Copenhagen!).Besides its simple lines, I love the contrast created by the white translucent glass of the shade and the legs made of oak and I could see it fitting nicely next to my pallet table and Paulistano chair.Inspired by the traditional nordic milk stool, the MILK …

At home…

I’m back from holidays and I’m feeling energised. My head is buzzing with decoration ideas to make some changes around the home…until then, here is a picture of my bedroom shot by Francois Cluster light by Kathleen Hills,  Silver mini sac by Clare Vivier // (C) Photography: Francois Köng, Styling: Karine Candice Köng

At home…

I’ve added this gorgeous White Rabbit lamp by Egmont. Initially I took it home for Mila’s bedroom but then I tried it in our lounge and it just looks at home. I love the litte quirky touch it adds to the room so for the time being, that’s where it will stay.PS: If you’re a fan of Vanessa Paradis like me, she is on the cover of Vogue UK!

Last post for the day but I couldn’t resist….

OK one last post for the day because if I spent my day in front of the computer, I’m not gonna get anything done but I couldn’t resist this white cotton pendant light and the whole atmosphere of the room….simply beautiful What do you think? This light designed by Nelson Sepudelva for Ay Illuminate reminds me a bit of the spirit of the Koushi XXL pendant light (with Coton Kandhi, 350 €) by Mark Eden Schooley I fell in love with at MERCI in Paris.
