Styling masterclass with Anouk B | Joyeuse Clique

20 bloggers… 5 nationalities… 2 days in Pernes-Les-Fontaines… 1 concept store as a playground = First blogger session organised by Joyeuse Clique at La Maison Pernoise which was just brilliant and definitively the best blogger meeting I’ve attended. The styling workshop was run by Anouk B who I absolutely adore but working, sleeping with her (we shared a bedroom) and talking with her about branding, styling, life etc… took my love for her to the next level (and dont get me started on her jumpsuit!) SLOW DESIGN | SLOW FOODING Developed around the aesthetics of the beautiful KINFOLK diners, our task on day one, was to style a table for the 50 guests coming for diner in the evening. I’m not sure if my photos are a credit to the final result but it was beautiful and so was the food prepared by Mistral Gagnant Food Truck. TRENDS STYLING Day 2: Anouk talked us through the various trends for 2014/2015 and then we have to pick one theme to style. I chose African Indigo…You can see …

Copycats, Copyright Infringement and Social Media Etiquette Part 2

I was planning a nice post on fashion but once again I had to deal with copyright infringement. This is getting SO boring…I would rather write about things that inspire me but yet, while this is still happening to myself and my creative peers, I will not give up the fight. If every time I mention this, someone learns about copyright infringement, then it’s better than nothing.Last week alone, I dealt with a copyright infringement issue in Denmark on Monday and ended the week with one in the US so here is the deal (or rather the definition): Copyright infringement is the use of works under copyright, infringing the copyright holder’s exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce, distribute, display or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works, without permission from the copyright holder, which is typically a publisher or other business representing or assigned by the work’s creator. In P-L-A-I-N language, it means that you can NOT use an image for commercial use that you do not own. So even if you are a Wizzard at photoshop, you are …

Copycats, Copyright Infringement and Social Media Etiquette

Earlier this week, my friend Désirée informed me that someone running an online store in Austria, was using all the images I had styled for our Spring/Summer catalogue (you can see my styling portfolio here). I immediately contacted this person to inform her that she was in breach of copyright infringement for using all our images illegally on her site.

I always knew the kind of woman I wanted to be….

I hope you’re having a wonderful Easter Bank Holidays weekend so far… Mine was certainly fantastic and relaxing…We played tourists in Notting Hill, went to a a show at the Sadler’s Wells, had a great lunch with friends at Stoke Place, an amazing venue outside London (see photos on Instagram) and today my best friend from Paris is arriving and I’m taking her to a Bikram Yoga class. On Saturday which was my birthday, I received a wonderful email from Kelly Rutherford ‘s office saying how much she loved BODIE and FOU. I’m always amazed and grateful when I get this kind of email. I mean this email had a WOW factor (I’m a huge fan of Gossip Girl and Kelly’s style) but I get touched the same way when I get a heartfelt email from a customer on the other side of the world. We are still a niche independent concept store without a massive marketing budget and it always surprises me when people feel a connection with the BODIE and FOU style and somehow hear about us even if they are miles away. It’s the …

What most schools don’t teach | Life with Mila

I thought it was a very interesting video…I know sometimes we look at successful people thinking how did they do it? Well…that’s just it, they did it! They didn’t spend years thinking…umm I don’t know how to do this or that, they just gave it a go, tried, sometimes failed and tried again. After I wrote this post about blogging, I got a few comments from people who were scared of even starting a blog. Starting a blog is one of the easiest thing you can do, so if it’s something that has been on your mind for a while, just do it!It’s a wonderful creative process and before thinking that it may become something that could bring you some income or not, take the pressure off it by looking at it, as your creative window. Let’s face it when you start, not many people will read your stuff anyway :-)Over the past seven years and since I’ve started blogging, I have taught myself about html code, photoshop, taking better photos, styling. I have connected and …

Be honest | Be yourself | Get paid for your work

Yesterday on Facebook, I asked a few of my fellow bloggers a simple question to find out how long a sponsored post should remain live on your blog (i.e. a month/3 months/a lifetime). It raised a lot of interesting, passionate answers and while at first, I felt like I had opened a can of worms, one thing that stroke a chord was the notion of integrity and trust.  {So…Should you get paid for your work?} Well why not!? Not everyone who writes a blog wants to be a professional blogger but if you do, if you love blogging, if you love sharing and you want to make a new career out of it, then getting into the right frame of mind and having the confidence to get paid for your work is important. However, let’s be realistic there…Blogging is a game of patience. Even the most successful blogs have not become a success overnight. There is a lot of hours put into generating unique, interesting content . You also need to be consistent and most importantly BE …

Guest post on Kellly Hoppen’s blog | Women

I was very honoured a few weeks ago to be asked to participate to Kelly Hoppen‘s media campaign which aims to inspire and support those in business with Prince’s Trust, the UK Trade & Investment and Prime.Kelly asked several internet entrepreneurs for their testimonials including my friends Arianna, Carole and Daniel who launched the first digital UK Interior magazine: Heart Home magazine last year Jaime Derringer who left a full-time job to launch DESIGN MILK – one of the world’s most influential online design sites and of course, Holly Becker of Decor8 who  is one the most inspiring and warm person I’ve ever met and who has recently launched very successfully her second book Decorate Workshop. And then us…who launched a family business 7 years ago. You’ll see that the first few years were ‘a bit challenging’ to say the least but like anything…. what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. I found everyone’s testimonials very inspring and if you are thinking of launching a business online, I’m sure you will too.You can read the full article here and read Kelly’s article on the Huffington Post here …
