A few months ago, my skin got really really dry and unfortunately, dry skin makes me look old. Granted I’m no longer a Spring chicken but I’m not ready to retire yet so I vowed to look after myself and to take care of my skin to reverse the signs of ageing .

Fast forward 6 months later and my skin is looking waaay better so what did I do? Well, it’s a combination of several things: nutrition, hydration and a good skincare routine.
NUTRITION
More than anything else in the world, the first thing that will really improve your skin is how you feed your body. I’m a strong advocate of “you are what you eat” and swapping processed food for whole, organic food will work wonder for your skin and well-being.
Dairy, sugars, gluten consumed in excess are all bad for the skin and as all processed foods have tons of hidden sugars, nowadays we eat more sugars than what our body can deal with.
I’ve mentionned several times in the well-being section on the blog and on Instagram, how the changes I made to my diet, had a positive impact on my skin and overall well-being. Personally, I think I look younger than 4 years ago. My skin is cleared, my eyes brighter and providing I get 7 hours of sleep, I look ok without too much make-up on.
If you have teenagers at home who suffers badly from acne, the first thing to do is really to encourage them to lay off processed sugars and soft drinks. Within a week or two, they will see major improvements.
HYDRATION
I have been drinking 1.5 Lt of water/day for a good ten years. It’s an habit now and my body craves for it if I’m on the road and I don’t have the chance to drink that much. Other small changes I made was swapping my cups of Earl Grey tea for green tea which has antioxidants and since I drink easily a teapot a day, I’ve also recently swapped for organic green tea.
SKINCARE
Last Summer in Croatia, my skin took a hit after spending so much time in the sun and it’s only when I went to Barcelona and had a peeling in the spa of the Meridien and adopted a skincare routine afterwards that my skin got back to normal. The product I have been using these past few months is the Glycolactic Radiance Renewal mask by REN, which, if you don’t know it, has a lovely citrus fragrance.
It comes in 50ml, which is perfect to travel in my cabin luggage when I fly and once a week, I apply a generous amount over my face and neck (avoiding the eye area), leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse it in the shower. Unlike other products I’ve tried in the past, this one doesn’t leave my skin dry or itchy. My skin is soft and feels fresh. I can’t really comment on how it reduces fine lines because most of mine are around the eyes and it’s the area where you can not apply the product as the skin is a lot more fragile but I love how soft my skin is afterwards.
Use on a weekly basis, you will achieve the following results:
- Removes dead skin cells to renew the complexion.
- Skin looks brighter, healthier, more radiant.
- Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Combats congestion, blackheads and blemishes.
Since we are currently in Marrakech where it’s a bit dusty, I used it yesterday while Mila was having a swim in the basin of our beautiful Ryad and once again, I loved how my skin felt rejuvenated.
