Insert coffee table by Ferm Living

It took me a while to find a nice, coffee table for the lounge in CASA PYLA but it wasn’t something I wanted to rush. Along with your sofa, the coffee table is a key focal point when you walk into a lounge. It’s one of the first things you notice and can often make or break a scheme. I had a very clear scheme of natural materials, colors, and organic shapes in mind for CASA PYLA. As the house is located two minutes’ walk from the beach, I wanted to use similar natural tones to the ones found at the beach. Similar to our home in London and our first home in France, it was also important to me to create a space that felt like a holiday home all year long. In those Covid times, having a home that makes you feel relaxed is important. To create a timeless, soft minimalist vibe, I favored natural materials such as linen, light wood, leather. Then I focused on keeping a soft, natural palette using shades of whites, …

The Spanish chair by Børge Mogensen

The Spanish chair by Børge Mogensen

The Spanish chair by Børge Mogensen is one of my favourite mid-century Danish design. A black version of Mogensen’s Spanish chair was lent to us when we photographed our home in London (see the whole feature in Grazia UK here). I wish I could have kept it… It’s a beautiful, sturdy chair, extremely comfortable with a high-quality thick leather cover and wooden frame. Have you ever tried it? This month, Fredericia releases a Special Edition of the Spanish chair by Børge Mogensen in Deep Red saddle leather. It’s a beauty! Originally designed in 1958, The Spanish Chair has been manufactured by Fredericia ever since. It’s an iconic piece you will often find in corporate settings, hotels, galleries, and private residences around the globe, reflecting Mogensen’s unique angle on modernity.  What do you think of this new colour? Do you like it or do you prefer one of the other colours? What is your favourite mid- century classic chair? SHOP THE FREDERICIA CHAIR

Basal table by Normal Studio

The Basalt table by Normal studio

Black dining tables and black coffee tables add, without a doubt, modern luxury to a home. The Basalt table designed by Normal Studio adds warmth and textures too. Founded in 2006 by Jean-François Dingjian and Eloi Chafaï, Normal Studio is a French industrial Design agency located in Paris (Montreuil). Both have designed products for Ligne Roset, Tolix, SEB, Tefal and more recently the stylish Mimic mirror for Muuto and many more. SHOP MY FAVOURITES FROM THE MUUTO COLLECTION Cut from a single oak trunk to get an even aspect, each piece is handcrafted and burned with a blowtorch (see video below) to get this deep colour becoming close to a mineral aspect. Once finished, the designs retain their natural tree rings and represent the history, beauty, and destruction of nature….basically life.   You can watch below how the Basalt table is made. It’s fascinating, don’t you think!? Burn wood was also used on the outside of French Fashion Designer Aurélie Lecuyer’s home, a beautiful family home designed by Atelier Ordinaire. If you’re looking for a similar finish for your …

Limited Edition CH24 Wishbone chair by Hans J. Wegner

Limited edition of the wishbone chair

The wishbone chair in its natural finish, which you can see in this beautiful Scandinavian home, is by far, my favourite wooden chair. And if you love it too love or simply love Scandinavian design, you are in for a real treat and something very special! To celebrate Hans J. Wegner’s 104th birthday on April 2, Carl Hansen & Søn is releasing a special edition of the iconic CH24 Wishbone Chair in Ancient Oak. Wegner first designed the Wishbone Chair, known for its distinctive wishbone-shaped backrest, in 1949, and the chair has been in continuous production since 1950. It is the result of an intense and uncompromising partnership between Wegner and the skilled craftsmen who contributed to the design’s demanding development work. Almost 70 years after coming into existence, the Wishbone Chair continues to be manually assembled by skilled craftsmen who handle the chair’s 14 parts and hand-weave the seat from 120 meters of paper cord before the finished chair can leave the furniture factory in Gelsted, on the Danish island of Funen. Often I feel we forget why classic …

5 intérieurs avec la chaise NAP de Kasper Salto | Republic of Fritz Hansen

5 ways with the NAP chair

On my long list of things to do in our home, is getting a new set of chairs (maybe the NAP chair) for our recently renovated dining area. Ten years ago, I bought a set of white dining chairs from AM-PM but unfortunately, out of the 8 purchased, only 2 survived. To replace them, I sourced an eclectic collection of vintage wooden chairs from second-hand shops which I then painted white (see here on Instagram, here and here) The Bertoia chair by Knoll was bought on Ebay and I’m selling a brand new one here which we are not using if you are interested. The mix and match of style and genre gave our room a relaxed, holiday vibe which I love. However, I have been living with the same look for the past ten years and it would be nice to upgrade at some point. On my radar, is this beautiful, simple NAP chair designed by Kasper Salto for Republic of Fritz Hansen in 2010. Salto started thinking about the design of the chair in 2008 and the NAP chair is the …

Limited edition: The CH23 chair BY Carl Hansen & Son

Limited edition: The CH23 chair BY Carl Hansen & Son

I’m back from a girls weekend in Marrakech (which was so good on so many levels!) and I have to admit that after spending days in the souk surrounded by beautiful woven baskets and shades, hand carved wooden home accessories & furniture, the natural look is really high up in my mind to revamp our home in France. So when I received the press release from Carl Hansen & Son in my inbox, their re-edition of the CH23 chair caught my eye… Unveiled in 1950, the CH23 chair was one of the first four pieces, Hans J. Wegner created exclusively for Carl Hansen & Son. After decades out of production, the CH23 will become available on 16 June, and all pieces sold on this date will be engraved with the designer’s signature and the reissue date. The chair is available in three finishes (black, soap oak and walnut oak) but I’m particularly fond of the soap oak finish (above) for its light, natural look. We are in need of new chairs in our home and I can see how wonderful the …

Two of the most iconic chairs in one photo

Two of the most iconic chairs in one photo

Today’s portrait session was in the new home of an Interior Designer. The house is not finished yet so we had to move a few boxes around to carve ourselves a little corner for the photoshoot but it was good fun. I will share some pictures with you once it’s finished. I loved the wooden ceiling, the concrete floor and this perfect little corner filled with natural light had two of my favourite chairs: the Panton chair by Vitra and the Eero Saarinen Tulip chair by Knoll. If you haven’t seen them yet, I have created a Facebook page for my Portrait Photography (click here to follow it) and a new Instagram account: Karine Kong Photography. If anyone is interested in doing a portrait session with me, I will be in London the first week of April so leave a comment or send me a message xoxo.

Handvark- Jury Découvertes Maison & Objet

Handvärk: “Jury Découvertes” Award at M&O

Paris is always a good idea and if you follow me on Instagram, you may know that I was there last week… I had the chance to be invited by the prestigious Maison & Objet to discern an Award to the design or Designer of my choice. It’s a great thing to receive an Award but it’s also a great feeling to be able to give an Award to someone and spread a bit of happiness around. I saw a lot of beautiful designs at Maison & Objet … Pretty things that strike a chord, others that impressed me and some that would have loved to have in my home. In the end, I decided to give the Award to Designer Emil Thorup and Handvärk for their gorgeous marble coffee table 90. Imagine my joy when I found out the company was only 12 months old! As much as I love the likes of Menu, Vitra and & Tradition, it’s a great feeling to award new, upcoming Designers where talent is so obvious. Made of 4 pieces of white marble with a steel frame, the coffee table 90 by HANDVÄRK seduces me …
