Back to school look

Twelve years in the making and it’s the first time that I didn’t drop Mila to the wrong school or the wrong day (the year she got into the French Lycée in London, I took her the day before school started). It’s also the first time, I got everything done in time including school supplies courtesy of the parents association, which had the brilliant idea to centralise all purchases to save time and money to the parents. All I had to do was ticked a list, send a cheque and collect everything last Saturday (time spent on buying school stationary = 10 minutes, Stress level = peanuts). God Bless Parents Associations!!On Sunday, I got overwhelmed (and sad) by the realisation that she is growing up fast but today I’m feeling better now. Gratitude

It has been a tough few days (actually a tough year but let’s focus on the last few days). We lost a chicken on Monday and that upset me more than I expected it would and yesterday, Steve and I went to a funeral as our friend Alexia lost her dad. 12 months after losing mine, feeling her intense pain and re-living the sense of loss and sadness we all felt, was extremely draining and painful. We, as a group of friends, have spent far too many times at the Crematorium these past few months…4 times in total, that’s one loved one gone every 3 months. Yet today, with tears in my eyes and my whole body aching, I want to feel grateful for all we have.

On our last day in Portugal, the three of us went to the restaurant where Mila read us something that Steve had on his phone while we were waiting for our food. It was very funny and a few are spot on like “Eat your vegetables, they are good for you” or “What part of NO don’t you understand” but as Steve is a hands-on dad, there were some that could have easily be Dad-isms too. Read on and see which ones are very appropriate to your family… A little “birdy” told me! All I do is follow you around, picking up after you like some maid. Am I talking to a brick wall? Imagine…your child makes a big mistake and she leaves you a letter of apology. How do you react!? Mila left us a heartfelt, apologising letter under our sheets which made me smile and one that I will treasure for years to come. I shared it to Steve and we both had the same reaction…going to Mila’s bedroom to reassure her. Her dad told her he was proud of her for being honest with us. I told her we loved her. Here is what it says: “I’m really sorry I can’t tell you this myself but I’m really worried by your reaction so I think it’s best you find out what happened that way. I put the iPad under the bed so to Lucas (our dog) wouldn’t walk on it and when I pulled it out, later on, it has this horrible big crack. I know you’re going to shout at me but I want you to know that I didn’t do anything and I’m really really sorry. I hope you will forgive me. I’m really worried and I …

Little piece of wisdom I’m trying to pass on to Mila…What best piece of advice have you been giving to your children? Nowadays kids are a lot more connected than we were at their age. As a Blogger, it would be difficult for me to prevent her from using social media but I’m trying to teach her to keep her feet on the ground and to connect with her own tribe so to speak….real friends, friends she shares an interest, people she can rely on. Funnily enough, when it comes to Mila owing a phone for instance, I’m super traditional. She hasn’t got one yet and I will postpone it as much as I can (I’m aiming for her 16 years old birthday) :-) How about you? How are you feeling about all of this? GET SOME PRINTS
