Our pared-down & natural London home in Grazia

Our pared-down & natural London home in Grazia

I never got around to share with you the new pared-down and natural look of our London home after the renovations (you can see various stages of the renovations here). We have since then, sold the house, moved to our holiday home in France where I started more renovations (see the rooms I’ve already tackled here) Luckily, we managed to squeeze a photo shoot with Photographer Michael Paul who had already photographed the house for ELLE DECORATION before the renovations and the new house got featured in Grazia UK (yeah!!). As many of you reside outside the UK, I have managed to get hold of the pdf to share the whole feature with you… Downstairs, we gave the existing grotty kitchen a massive makeover (read all about it here), painted the brown beams in white and added a large floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the garden. The latter is one design feature that I will do again. Being able to watch the changes of the seasons was beautiful and very special (see what I mean here and here and more under this hashtag). …

A visit to the Vitra Campus (Switzerland)

A visit to the Vitra Campus

About 16 years ago, I was working for Universal Pictures International when the company started to refurbish the offices. During the renovations, they threw away two brown leather chairs (these). At the time, I wasn’t aware of what they were (Eames Aluminium chairs). I just loved how they looked (beautifully designed) and I thought they would look great with the first ‘grown-up’ piece of furniture I had bought: a Robin Day leather sofa (do you remember when Habitat had it in-store!?) to furnish my flat in Stoke Newington. Little did I know that they were designed by Charles & Ray Eames and produced by Vitra. Since then, I have developed a profound love for Charles & Ray Eames’ designs and consequently for Vitra so I was super excited to fly to a two-day press trip to the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, just outside Basel, Switzerland, which turned out to be pretty full on, very tiring but also very inspiring and interesting. I’m sure most of you have heard of Vitra and Charles & Ray Eames but you …

A minimalist white kitchen with high ceiling

A minimalist white kitchen with high ceiling

The minimalist design, the white walls, the massive sky window to fill the room with natural light, the soothing combo of white and natural wood makes this kitchen one of my absolute favourites. From a design point of view, kitchens are my favourite room in a home and I’m absolutely loving everything about this white, airy kitchen. What do you think? This kitchen is from a block of 22 apartments built in a former meat factory by Swedish Architecture practice Arrhov Frick. Sadly I couldn’t find more pictures of the kitchen or the whole flat to share with you so we will have to make do with this sole photo and imagine how the rest of the flat could look like. The design of this kitchen is very simple but yet so effective and works wonderfully in a small flat as we all as a warehouse-type conversion. Subtle black touches are added throughout the room like this classic Vitra Eames house bird (available from John Lewis) sitting on top of the kitchen units. The square table and the chairs are …
