The neutral tones home of Kaja Møller, head of Danish furniture brand Fredericia

Four days away from Mila going back to school and myself “officially” going back to work, I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things. I have started a few comprehensive articles on our recent kitchen, bathroom & bedrooms renovations in our home in France (see #bodieandfourenovations on my Instagram) but none of them are finished. So today I’m showing you the home of Kaja Møller, head of Danish furniture brand Fredericia, decorated with Scandi-inspired neutral tones – a look that at the best of times I find soothing and at its worst, a bit too classical.  How about you!? What’s your take on neutral tones!? Kaja Møller, who lives there with her husband and two children, designed the interior herself and creating a succession of rooms in neutral tones, drawing inspiration from French and Italian interior design. In the dining area, the walls are painted in a light shade of grey which contrasts nicely with the black timber ceiling beams and the steel cabinet. I wish we could see more of this steel cabinet as it …

A natural tones residence in Mykonos

A natural tones residence in Mykonos

The muted tones of this residence have inspired me greatly recently. I have been eager to change the decoration to fit our new life since we relocated to France. The soft, natural palette of this residence is what I’m aiming for. Our current decoration is not outdated, quite the opposite actually. I was impressed by how some areas in our home still look modern and timeless after 12 years like our master bedroom with its dark grey feature wall or the Ikea kitchen that hasn’t gone yellow despite being exposed to natural light. However, now that we have received our belongings from London, I feel it’s time to give our home a little makeover and a more beachy look. This amazing rendering of the Mykonos residence was designed by Block 722, an Architectural practice with offices in Greece and Denmark.Using a neutral palette, earthy materials, and natural soft furnishings, this residence is an invitation to wander around in one of these lovely dresses. Having used a natural lime-based paint by Kalklitir on one of the walls in our …

A minimalist home in London built around a plywood kitchen 1

A minimalist home with a plywood kitchen

Thank you so much for answering my little survey last night in my Instagram stories. Since 98% of you wanted to see more house tours, I thought I would kick in with this home in Islington (nice area in north London to visit if you’re planning a little trip). Featuring a minimalist plywood kitchen, it’s a home I find really inspiring for several reasons. First, it’s filled with natural light which in a city like London, is always a good thing. We added a lot of large windows when we renovated our home in London and I can’t stress enough the positive impact it had on our well-being and the overall vibe of our home. So if you’re planning a renovation, think about large windows (I’ve compiled some great examples of windows here). It has also a polished concrete floor, which is what I’m hoping to have in the next home we renovate. A brilliant space-saving design concept And then, there is this beautiful plywood module that hosts the kitchen, stairs but also includes a desk with …

Du bois naturel & du blanc: une maison dans la campagne suédoise

Natural wood & white interior: A Scandinavian home in the countryside

I love a beautiful Scandinavian home and natural wood + white walls is a combo that I find increasingly soothing and attractive. Maybe it is the fact that I spend more time out of the city, surrounded by nature and truth to be told, the first thing I do now in the morning, is (still wearing my PJs) putting my gumboots on to feed our chickens. Maybe, it is the fact that we live 20 minutes from the beach, surf twice a week and get a massive salty injection from the Atlantic Ocean and all its raw, wild beauty. With its high ceilings, white walls, pale wood and natural textured accents, this home exudes all these things that one can imagine in a home by the beach, don’t you think? Located in the south of Sweden, near Malmö (a city I only know from the extremely brilliant crime series The Bridge), this home combines tranquillity, modernity and embodies a very soothing, welcoming feel. Don’t you love houses filled with natural light and big windows where you …

A white industrial kitchen with Smeg appliances

A white industrial kitchen with Smeg appliances

I’ve always loved white kitchens. If I was a Property Developer or an Architect (my preferred choice) and I had plenty of houses to renovate, I would have fun trying different things. Maybe I will start by fitting a plywood kitchen or a gorgeous grey kitchen or even attempting to fit one with pale green units like this one in a beautiful Swedish flat. However, when it comes to living with it day in day out, a white kitchen will always be my first choice. How about you!? The high ceiling of this kitchen reminds me of this white, airy kitchen designed by Arrhov Frick, the duo of Architects who converted a former meat factory into a block of 22 apartments. The one below is from Rye London, a daylight kitchen photography studio in East London. You can also rent the space for events and workshops. I always think it’s tricky to find good, natural-lit, airy venues for an event so it’s definitively one cool address to bookmark. But let’s talk appliances for a change… This SMEG dual fuel …

A beautiful Airbnb in Greece

Kalimera! A beautiful home in Greece

Greece is one of those travel destinations that ticks many boxes in my book…I love Mediterranean food and I’m quite happy to eat grilled fish, fresh salads with feta cheese and eggplants at each meal providing I don’t have to cook. The landscape in Greece is also very beautiful and as a white interiors lover, those little white houses with gorgeous blue accents scream Summer to me. Greece is also still reasonably affordable as a holiday destination. This home, located in Nisyros, a small volcanic Greek island located in the Aegean Sea between Kos and Tilos was built in 1850. Recently converted into two independent luxury apartments, it was restored by ADarchitects using only eco-friendly primary materials such as the local black volcanic stone of the island, that gives the house its special character. White on white looks always stylish, clean and inviting which is always a great thing for a holiday home. The kitchen combines modern, clean lines with rustic touches. Playing smooth materials against finishes with more textures as seen here with the pendant light and the …

Un bel appartement blanc aux touches naturelles

A white apartment with natural accents

Hello everyone! If you’ve been a reader of my blog for a while, you know that white interiors are my first love so today, I’m taking inspiration from this beautiful white apartment with lovely natural accents. I love how lived-in and cosy it feels. It’s not a big place but it is a beautiful space don’t you think? One thing that I really want to tackle this year is our lounge in France. Steve was given a massive TV by his best friend who moved back to New-Zealand and although it was a nice thought, this very large screen is a real eye-sore in our lounge (at least to me!). I suggested we put it on the wall and get rid of the stand but somehow, Steve who is normally handy and good at DIY is not feeling brave enough to drill into the wall. Looking at the position of the sofa and chairs, I think the black picture frame on the wall is a print and not a TV but should you have one of these TV screens, it …

a light & airy dutch family home

A white, open-plan living dutch family home

Last week, I featured two shots from this Dutch home photographed by Sonja Velda, first in my post about these four beautiful white kitchens with concrete floor and then this amazing sliding door in my DETAILS series. I thought the house was so beautiful that it was worth showing you the rest of it. I have also found out since then, that the vintage patchwork on the sliding door was a wallpaper by Studio Onszelf which made my day as this will be a lot easier to use! So without further ado, let me show the rest of this fabulous, family home. What do you think of this home? What were your favourite details? //Photography Sonja Velda with thanks
