First, sweatshirts often have cooler designs than jumpers like this New-York one I got from H&M and they go perfectly with boyfriend jeans or black trousers (see last week’s popular fashion post).
Second, they are easier to care for than woollen jumpers. They don’t pill & they go in the washing machine. I also go for grey marl rather than black because I don’t like how black gets washed out (a bit OCD here).
I’ll make an exception to a cashmere jumper worn on bare skin…let’s face it, no cool sweatshirt can beat that!
I think a plain grey marl sweatshirt is a must/basic. I wear mine with a black suit. Teamed up with a white tee, jeans or black trousers, we/I can look cool without trying too hard + it’s comfy and plus ça va, less I can be bothered with clothes I’m not comfortable with.
If you don’t want to do grey or black, check this old rose sweatshirt from Acne…I love it!
My good-to-go look at the moment when I cycle to work, is pretty much this look: a pair of Energy Boost black Adidas + black trousers rolled up above the ankles + this B&W jumper or a structured grey marl sweatshirt + my oversized coat from Gap and this Zadig & Voltaire shoulder bag.
If you are after a very cool sweatshirt, check out my favourites below:
1/ This Cercle gris sweatshirt by Correll Correll
2 & 3/ The Epic sweatshirt and I’m Here sweatshirt (it’s good to be centered don’t you think!?), both designed by Hugo Guinness for J. Crew
4/ The Lexington sweater that looks super soft
5/ If you work in a formal environment, the Brooke sweatshirt is a great one to own
6/ The M sweatshirt from Mango
7/ I like the Voila très beau sweatshirt but I would have prefered it without the flowers!
8/ and this ABSOLUTELY one :-)
9/ The Sloppy Joe which has a nice wide neck by Hush
10/ and for children, I love the sequins detail on the sunik from Bellrose, this New-York one from Fingers in the Nose and this pretty one with horses.
What about you? Do you wear grey sweatshirts? Do you prefer plain or with something on?
